Ok folks, if you haven’t already done so, it is time to renew your Laser Class Memberships. THANK YOU TO ALL 108 OF YOU FOR JOINING IN 2008! This puts us in the TOP 10 largest districts in North America ! You sailors rock !
Frostbiting is happening all around us! The RTP Jordan Lake Crew is hard at it everyother weekend! Lake Lanier Sailing Club is the same with around 20 boats at each start. Wrightsville Beach has monthly racing averaging around 10 per start, and Florida is cranking up their racing season.
So it is time to start chugging the protein shakes, or for some us slim fast. Find the 1500grit sandpaper and clean the blades, and read up on the new rules for 2009.
Speaking of which, LIFE JACKETS, AND SHARPY PEN MARKINGS have made headlines in recent rule encounters. Sailing in the waters of the United States requires a Type III PFD. Also using a Sharpy or anyother kind of marking device on spars, decks and daggerboards is technically illegal! I know I know, it is news to me as well. Fortunately the ILCA is working on fixing the Sharpy issue, but I wanted to point it as the Handbook states that if it is not specifically stated that you can do something then you need to consider it illegal. Consider this your warning!
D-12 now has its own YouTube page, Districttwelvelaser (very original I know)

Yes there is one video so far. If you have laser related videos you would like to post let us know and we’ll help get them to the site. More are coming, including some from Andy Campbell and Robert Scheit.
See you on the water.
