Well, there was just too much sailing taking place this weekend to keep up with it all. There were Lasers being sailed on two courses, the Sound and the Ocean. Scores have been updated for Full and Radials that sailed on the Ocean side. Congrats to Chris Stang who lead the Radials in the Ocean and yes, you guessed it, Eric Oetgen in the Full. We also had a brother/sister combination in our midst with Benton Whitesides placing 2nd in the radial fleet and her brother Paul Whitesides placing second in the full fleet. Thanks again to the CYC and all others who brought boats and helped make this years SAYRA regatta another wonderful event.
Hi D12,
Just a short note to explain 2 items to those of you who sailed at the CYC-NC Open this past weekend.
Call it heat stroke or fatigue but I forgot to inform the computer guy who was entering results that 2 sailors who had received a Z flag penalty on the attempt at starting the 4th race, should have had that penalty carry over to the actual race that started. Will be correcting that error ASAP. We have cleared this action with one of the judges.
The second note involves the SI’s section that mentions staying clear of another fleet’s start. One reason is obvious..don’t want you playing out in traffic with J-24’s or Lightnings..we almost had a collision between a Lightning, a SF and the signal boat for example. A couple of J-24’s were caught in some heavy small boat traffic during their sequence. The second reason is a courtesy to other fleets. Our race management team realizes now that you were struggling to see the flags on the port side and the course board on the starboard side in heavy winds and seas…not to mention how fast we were shooting fleets across the starting line. We will fix that.
What triggers the third reason though is the Laser who blocked the RC’s line of sight on the pin end while another fleet was in sequence. The Laser was on the starting line side of the pin, blocking every inch of it from our sight. Fortunately he backed off by the time of the last 30 seconds of the other fleet’s start. At the time we had no pin boat who could yell to clear the starting line. I would have hated to AP another fleet’s start due to this.
Thank you for your attention to these matters and I regret my error in the scoring.
Regards to everyone who took the trouble and effort to get here for our regatta. It was an honor to have you here.
